For this weeks, tutorial exercise we had to question the following questions below =)
Online video use began around 2005 - 2006 when the spread of Internet becoming easily to access globally. Since then online video clips have become very popular. By 2006, there was tens of millions of video clips available online as new websites began springing up focusing on purely on offering free video clips to users and many of those particular sites established and corporate sites by adding video clips to their own sites.
It was also then when individual sites began creating online vlogs for the public. Youtube was not the first online video website, it was just easy to work. Youtube was created in 2006 and is growing more and more popular every day. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_videos)
2.In the lecture we heard about technological innovations that were used by the studios to lure audiences. (mostly to combat the popularity of TV)
What recent innovations are being used to lure us in the movies?
What are they luring us from?
What recent innovations are being used to lure us in the movies?
What are they luring us from?
Some recent innovations that try to lure people into going to the cinema is effects such 3D and 4D viewing of the movie. They are also making bigger screens in particular cinemas such IMAX to make the movie more effective. Furthermore, in some cinema places they place effects on the seats so that they will vibrate or shock you when the movie becomes action filled. But these are some of things business do to lure us in.
But in luring us in it lures us away from simply things that probably everyone does. One of the things we get lured out from is downloading, which I'm sure most people do instead of spending our money on watching the movie at the cinemas. Also, it influences us to go out more instead of staying home and probably on facebook or the couch watching TV. But in luring us into going out, we can socialize face to face instead texting or calling or basically relying on technology to catch up with people.
3.Are short films still being made? Why? Who pays for them to be made?
Short films are still being made in today's industry. Short films have expanded to advertisements and including the music industry within the video clips for the release of singles of artist's songs. But other than that area of the world, short films are becoming popular with college/university students and within the independent film industries. Also, some major companies are producing short films along with their major films such as Blur Studio and Disney.
4.The term viral is thrown about adhoc but what does it mean in film/movie arena? Give some examples.
The term, viral, means caused by virus or spreading by word of mouth. This term can mean in the film/movie industry that certain products or advertises can be spread really quickly through the use of technology, it can spread like a virus. An example of this would be Old Spice, CoverGirl, Pringles etc. CoverGirl is one of the industries that sky-rocketed and became a worldwide sensation within the cosmetic industry. Pringles is widely sold throughout many countries such as the US, UK, Australia, Canada etc.
5. Online video distribution isn't limited to the short film format. We are now starting to see television styled shows made solely for internet release (webisodes). Find an example of this style of content and discuss how viewing television content in this way can positively and negatively affect the viewer's experience.
In today's society, there are now video shows/ online blogs throughout the internet. A online entertaining TV show that is example of this is the "What The Buck Show" on youtube. The show is more based on the gossip and making fun of celebrities but still entertaining for many viewers. This content can be seen positively for the viewer and the blogger as there is more a vast audience and it can be convenient to the public. Negatively, this type of public content being shown can influence and be easily accessed by younger teenagers and kids. Furthermore, if anything is said wrong or is abusive, it can be deleted off the net.
